Technique
The easiest technique to navigate using google maps is by drag and drop facility.
Move the mouse to the area of the map, hold the left button of the mouse and holding move the cursor in the opposite direction of what you want to show on the map.
To zoom in and zoom out one can use the wheel in between the two mouse buttons.
One can even use the navigate icon in the left of the google maps to zoom in and zoom out.

Maps
Map.This button puts Google Map in "map" view. It has a grey backgroud.Some Roads are colored white, larger roads are yellow, and major highways and interstates are colored in orange.
Satellite.This button paints Google Maps with a satellite overlay which allows you to see the area as it seen from above.In this mode, you can zoom in untill you can make out individual houses.
Terrain.This button highlights differences in train. It is used to determine whether the area is flat or rocky.

Views
The traffic button is very handy for those who have a commute that is often delayed because of slow-moving traffic.
This view is for zooming into a street-level view so that you can see how traffic is doing.Roads that are moving well are highlighted in green, while roads that are experience traffic issues are highlighted in red.
Street view is an interesting introduction in Google Map but is a bit more difficult to use.This view will give you a view of the street as if you are standing in the middle of it.Note that the street view will only work on street that are highlighted in blue.
